What we teach in the Program: Students acquire the theory and skills necessary to earn an EMT-B certificate of completion. Topics included in the course are: roles and responsibilities of the EMT; medico-legal considerations

of EMS; respiratory and cardiac emergencies; practical use of airway adjuncts; bleeding and shock; trauma management; medical emergencies and their management; environmental emergencies; emergency childbirth; pediatrics; geriatrics; exposure to hazardous situations; introduction to hazardous materials; psychological emergencies; patient packaging and triage; stabilization and transport of the sick and injured; and communications and report writing. National Registry skills testing are included in this course. Following the course completion, a National Registry written exam must be taken through a separate testing agency to become certified. This course meets state regulations for EMT-B training and is approved by Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services as preparation for EMT-B certification (08/29/08).

Just finished 5 days attending the EMS World Expo 2024 in Las Vegas this year. I was able to see all the newest EMS toys located in one huge exhibit hall. I also took several classes to learn about the newest ways to teach EMS classes while incorporating the newest technologies (including AI) and also how to improve presentations and lectures utilizing data collected from several national EMS teaching organizations.

Lastly, I was able to assist with teaching my first National EMS seminar, Paramedic Preceptor Program: Integrating Theory and Practice in EMS.

It was a great week.

Happy EMS Week 2024! This week, after a couple brief recruitment presentations from Royal Ambulance, the Mon/Wed and Tue/Thurs EMT classes had their graduations and had successfully completed the course. Welcome our newest graduates. Now get out there, pass the NREMT test and go make a difference!

Multi-casualty incident drill at the SJCC EMT Program. Two different MCI scenarios in one evening: A motor vehicle accident and an active shooter incident in a bar. This helped the EMT Students understand how utilizing ICS and START triage can create some organization out of pure chaos.
