We continue our Women’s History Month celebration by featuring an inspiring chemist, Dorothy Hoskins.

Dorothy’s fascination for crystals led to a long and honorable career in chemistry. She graduated from Somerville, Oxford in 1932 with a first class honors degree in chemistry. In 1964 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for discovering the molecular structures of several bio molecules including the crystal structures of Insulin, Penicillin, and Vitamin B12.

In celebration of Women's History Month, we will be featuring amazing women that have made historic contribution to science despite the challenges of gender discrimination.

Today we recognize Katherine Johnson, a West Virginia born hidden figure whose passion for math and learning showed at an early age. She went on to become the third African American person to earn a PhD in mathematics and graduated with highest honors. Johnson had one of her biggest breakthroughs when her mathematical calculations helped sync Project Apollo’s Lunar Module with the lunar-orbiting Command and Service Module.
