"This week I decided to arrange Telemann's Violin Fantasia n°7 in Eb Major for alto saxophone. This fantasia in particular requires a lot of control approaching the break into the altissimo register. Luckily it is in the alto sax's home key of Eb Major so altissimo fingerings are not too much of an issue."

For we’re celebrating the women in saxophone history! Earlier this month Shoko Nagami, one of our graduate students, gave a presentation for the studio about women in music. It primarily explored female saxophonists in the 19th century and early 20th century, and their many accomplishments which have been forgotten and overshadowed by men in the same field.

For all the women in male dominated fields: we will be remembered!

Who is Robin Lacey and what has she been up to? Robin received her M.M. in Saxophone Performance from SJSU in 2019. She is a beloved member of our studio community! Before coming to SJSU she studied music education at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Now she has her own Kindermusik studio where she helps children tap into their full musical potential as well as building on their social, emotional and cognitive development.

Fellow Spartans! Make sure to stop on by the School of Music's Town Hall tonight at 7:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for students to voice their concerns, opinions, and experiences about our curriculum.

Here are some of the questions that will help guide tonight's discussion. Can't wait to see everyone there tonight!
How do your experiences in the classes you have taken meet, or fail to meet, the written objectives?
Through your experiences, what topics of discussion are left out or, in your opinion, lack sufficient examination?
What other structural obstacles do you face as a student? (Equity)
