SJSU Urban & Regional Planning

SJSU Urban & Regional Planning The department offers an undergraduate minor in Urban Studies, five graduate certificate programs, and a Master of Urban Planning (MUP) degree.

As of July 1st, 2019, the department welcomes the Geography program and has expanded our curricular offerings. Located in the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay Region, SJSU lies in the heart of Silicon Valley - one of the most rapidly changing and socially complex metropolitan areas of the nation. The San José metropolitan area and the larger Bay Region offer outstanding opportunities for

case studies and research in all aspects of urban and regional planning. The department engages faculty and students in public service projects designed to assist local communities in addressing topical planning issues, while complementing the academic curriculum with real-world professional experiences. Currently, the department offers an undergraduate Minor in Urban Studies, a graduate Master of Urban Planning degree, and four certificate programs.

This FREE lunchtime book talk looks amazing - for anyone who's wondered about how our streets get paved/striped/designed - this is a good one!

Likey Bikey!

San José has a plan to become “one of the most bike-friendly communities in North America.” The City’s latest plan envisions a 557-mile network of all-ages-and-abilities bikeways with the goal of supporting 20% of all trips to be made by bike by 2050.

How do policymakers and planners ensure bike networks—this one in San José and in others in cities across the nation—are equitable as well as efficient and sustainable?

Expanding bike networks and allocating funds necessitate meticulous planning to ensure a fair distribution of bike infrastructure, but many current assessment methods do not account for differences in bike path classes that provide different safety and comfort levels for cyclists.

Join the conversation with experts to discuss a new equity assessment of San José’s bike infrastructure. This assessment is driven by a weighting system for different safety and comfort levels of the urban bike network, and using it could have a major impact on bike infrastructure, traffic congestion, sustainability, and Bay Area communities https://transweb.sjsu.edu/events/Pedaling-Progress-SJ-BikeEquity-Tool
