Caminos Summer Bridge & FYE
These programs transition students from high school to college by exposing students to academic rigor and college life. On entry, students will select a STEM, Liberal Arts, or a Pathway to Law School track supported by activities that include a summer courses in Math or English, orientation to college, and tutoring. This is an extensive year-long commitment beginning with Summer Bridge 2015, offering a 6 week summer program designed to help students upgrade their skills in English, Math, critical thinking, and college success skills. Continuous support will be offered beyond the first year and through graduation with intensive support by a team of counselors, instructors, and peers. Peer Lead Team Learning (PLTL)
This is a learning and leadership program accomplished through a collaborative effort between the Metas Program and STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The central component of the program is weekly PLTL workshops for students enrolled in specified STEM courses that are facilitated by peer leaders. During the workshops, students participate in discussions, problem solving, and other activities to assist them in enhancing their subject matter knowledge, study skills, and course success. Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that uses peer-assisted workshops. SI workshops are regularly scheduled, informal review sessions where students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and predict test items. Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together in a small group setting. The workshops are facilitated by "SI Leaders" students who have done well in the course and have a genuine desire to help their peers succeed.
