Happy new 2021 SPARC family-let's be fierce, intentional and determined to keep our spirits bright, our aphasia community connected, and our world a better place this year. Well, SPARC members and fans: COVID does not seem to want to let go just yet. Alright then, we will keep on the innovation! Proud to share that we completed an 8-week telepractice pilot in May-June and have now rolled out our Summer 2020 SPARC telepractice edition. Excited that our summer clinic features assessment, cooperative therapy with dyads, groups, and our amazing aphasia choir. Excited to have experienced SLP and veteran supervisor, Anita Schaack joining our crew this summer! 👏

SPARC was proud to be featured in the 24-hour global virtual teach-in, hosted by Aphasia Access. It was late at night, and great at night! Here's to more teach-ins and sharing our cool work. This work was made possible by our funding from the El Camino Hospital and Foundation, as well as Dr. Pei-Tzu Tsai, and rockstar graduate students at San Jose State - Jessica Brym, Mia Wardell, Tiffany Park, and Ashlyn Tadokoro. 😃

COVID 19 made us realize all over again that communication is a basic human right. COVID slowed us down, put time and space between us - yet we have now restored our lifelines of speech, song, and social connection. We're going to get through this with hope and positivity - and that is SPARC's Aphasia Awareness month promise to you.
Shout out to the El Camino Hospital and Healthcare District for funding our work, to the Lurie College of Education, and the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences for their steady support. It takes a village to sustain our beautiful community.
In gratitude!

Aphasia did not stop our amazing SPARC members from brave conversations about the recent racial violence that has torn apart our country. You inspire us daily and give new meaning to our legacy at San Jose State University where we will never stop raising a voice for inequity and injustice. Power to you, always!
