LICENSE AND ACCREDITATION
License & Accreditation
California Takshila University started and registered as a California corporation on June 8, 2008 and is a legal operating institution according to BPPE. California State Institutional Approval
The California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) was a unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs whose purpose was to protect students by establishing academic standards for private institutions of higher education in California. BPPVE’s approval or exemption was required by the State of California to ensure consumer safety from substandard education providers. BPPVE agency ceased to operate on July, 2007, and a new agency, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), took its place in January, 2010. During this interim phase from July 2007 to January 2010, any higher education institution that started in California had to voluntarily follow BPPVE regulations. Since California Takshila University started its operation in 2008 it also voluntarily followed BPPVE regulations due to BPPVE’s inactive state. In January 2010, Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) - new state licensing agency came into operation and according to their instructions all new and old institutions had to submit their application within six months to be active. California Takshila University has also submitted its application to BPPE and is assigned with the application code 22629. The university is registered with BPPE, and operates under its governance. The university’s name will be published in the approved school directory by BPPE, once it has been assigned a school code. Any questions students may have regarding this matter that have not been satisfactorily answered by the institution may be directed to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education at 2535 Capitol Oaks Drive, Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95833, www.bppe.ca.gov, toll free number (888) 370-7589 Fax (916) 263-1897. Accreditation Statement
Accreditation is not required in the United States for Universities to legally operate as degree-awarding institutions. In the US, accreditation with an independent association of schools is an optional, not mandatory course of action that Universities can choose to establish. Most countries do not have independent University accreditation organizations; rather, assessment is performed by a government educational regulating organization, similar to our California State Education Bureau which grants legality. The US Department of Education (USDE) does not grant accreditation, furthermore, accreditation organizations in the US are not USDE governed. The US accreditation organizations are private institutionalized boards which grant a peer-review status of “accreditation” to Universities who choose to submit to their board review process. Most countries do not have private organizations which review and approve Universities as “accredited.” The biggest benefit of accreditation is the ease of opportunity for students to apply for government financial aid. Note: Transfer of credits between all universities, whether accredited or State approved, is always dictated by the policies of each university office of the registrar. For an institution to be accredited the institution has to work with non government accreditation agencies which require institution to operate for at least for 2 years, in order to assess data, processes and standard the institute follows.
