Leaning Pine Arboretum - Cal Poly

Leaning Pine Arboretum - Cal Poly Located on the Cal Poly campus, the arboretum occupies five acres overlooking the campus with dramatic views of the nearby coastal mountains.

Nestled in the foothills on Cal Poly campus, the arboretum offers a variety of unique gardens for relaxation, stress relief, and escape from the constant bustle of daily life. Collections are arranged primarily by nativity and feature a diverse array of trees, shrubs, and other landscape plants appropriate for California's Central Coast area. The gardens display hundreds of unique and intriguing p

lants primarily from the world's five Mediterranean climate regions: Australia, California, Chile, the Mediterranean basin, and South Africa. The Arboretum also has a New Zealand garden, a Dwarf and Unusual Conifer garden, a Formal garden, and displays of cycads, palms, and numerous succulents. It is completely free of charge and appropriate for all ages! Please come visit us!

Starting Friday (tomorrow) thru Saturday the Plant Shop is hosting a "Water Wise" event! A variety of small and large succulent varieties will be available for purchase...some which have not been previously.

You'll also receive a free bag of mulch with your purchase! Did I just say free? Oh yes, yes I did. Perfect opportunity to start your own little project at home.

Need some "water wise" ideas? Student projects will be on display for inspiration!

Never been to the Leaning Pine Arboretum before? Afraid you'll get lost? Never fear! Here are two super high tech maps and written directions that will get you there in one piece.

1st map (Driving):
- From Hwy. 1 turn onto Highland Dr. (Southbound = left turn, Northbound = right turn)
**Weekdays: parking pass kiosk on the right
**Saturday: parking is free!
- Follow Highland Dr. onto Via Carta
- Follow Via Carta all way up hill
- Parking lot on the left

2nd map (Walking from parking lot):
**Follow thin red line provided in map
- Walk up Via Carta, turn left before Horse Unit gate into Horticulture Unit
- Stay to left and walk back past buildings along road
- Turn left after the small steep hill (putting green on your right)
- Continue straight into Cal Poly's Best Kept Secret

*Yes, you ARE ALLOWED to walk through the property! Just follow the red line provided in the map or ask any staff/students for directions!
