When you think of NASA, images of astronauts, spacecraft and incredible photos of celestial bodies in our universe might pop into your head. You might also envision such technological wonders like rockets, the International Space Center, or manmade satellites orbiting the Earth. But you may not be fully aware of NASA’s many past and current missions all aimed at deepening humankind’s understanding
of the universe. Scientists and engineers from NASA and its predecessor, NACA, have been on this mission for the past 100 years. They have led in realizing many technology breakthroughs that have advanced our safety, communications, and our collective knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics applications. NASA also continues to be deeply committed to Education by developing and sharing a vast array of resources to the public, by creating learning opportunities for students of all levels, and by investing in programs to support the country’s educators “who play a key role in preparing, inspiring, exciting, encouraging, and nurturing the young minds of today who will be the workforce of tomorrow.”
This initiative is another example of this commitment. We aim to maintain and build upon the best of the existing NASA professional development offerings and to work closely with NASA to pilot and subsequently implement other innovative, high-impact approaches to extend NASA PD services to new audiences of formal and informal educators.
