The 2nd annual Service-Learning Excellence Showcase was held April 15th in McCoy Hall. Dr. Nikkie Saldivar Hodgson's poster titled "Communication Studies Career Readiness Students Learn About Food Security" was accepted and presented. This project contributes to the Texas State's Service Excellence program as it outlines how the service-learning teaching model can link departments to a unified community interest. Student presenters Vaughn Derr and Lauryn Kalb (communication studies majors and students in Dr. Hodgson's Career Readiness course, COMM 3322) co-presented and shared their experience in being involved in volunteering for Bobcat Bounty, coordinating a food drive for Communication Studies Food Cupboard in Centennial Hall and learning about food security on campus and in our communities.

Thank you to Dr. Nick Weimer and Ms. Rosario Davis for supporting these types of community initiatives.

We are sooo proud of “our Amanda!” She deserves all the accolades that come with this special award.👏👏🎁

Senior Corporate Recruiter Mallory Bernard from Arrive Logistics (Austin, TX) joined Dr. Nikkie Hodgson’s Career Readiness course (COMM 3322) as an industry guest speaker, sharing valuable insight on what it takes to stand out in today’s job market.

Her presentation covered Arrive Logistics’ hiring and training process, along with practical tips on resume building, cover letter development, and LinkedIn readiness -equipping students with tools to confidently enter their careers.

The impact speaks for itself:
Last year, Arrive Logistics hired three Communication Studies graduates - all COMM 3322 students:
• Samuel Carducci
• Alan Metz
• Emily Ritchie

So far in 2026, another COMM graduate (and COMM 3322 student), Buddy Santos (May 2026), has already received an offer.

Interested in joining their team? Connect with Mallory Bernard at [email protected], call 512.213.3143, or find her on LinkedIn.
