⭐️ Visitor Review ⭐️

"We had *the most fun* on our visit to the Meadows Center. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging, making learning about the natural springs feel exciting and memorable. Seeing the crystal-clear water and vibrant underwater life through the glass-bottom boat was such a unique experience. It gave us a whole new appreciation for natural preservation.

Overall, this was a perfect outing—fun, relaxing, and educational all at once. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!"

Thank you for the 5-star Google review, Kimberly G! 💙

We were honored to welcome Girls+Outside to for their final field trip of the year! 🌿💙

Students from across Austin ISD spent the day exploring the San Marcos Springs aboard our glass-bottom boats while celebrating a year of learning, mentorship, friendship, and time spent in nature.

It was a joy to host this incredible group of K-12 girls and witness the connection that programs like Girls+Outside inspire. Thank you for spending part of your journey with us! We loved being part of your celebration! ✨

📸 SPOTTED: Double-crested cormorant!

This bird can be found widely across North America, mostly near freshwater, but also in saltwater habitats such as coastal bays, rivers, ponds, and swamps. Their nests can be found in trees near water or on the ground, and they lay up to 7 eggs at a time.

This type of cormorant is called “double-crested” because of the two small, curly tufts of feathers (crests) that appear on its head during breeding season. They typically measure between 27-36 inches long, weigh 2.5-5.5 pounds, and have an impressive wingspan of 3.5-4 feet. These majestic birds have a matte black body, yellow-orange faces, and striking aquamarine eyes! Juveniles may appear lighter on the neck and belly.

Of course, these birds can swim, but they can also dive up to 25 feet deep to hunt for food! Their diet consists of fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and mollusks.
