The temple of the Gryphem is positioned at the heart of an island shaped by the impact of a body from the heavens durring a masive eruption. Creating a huge wall Of obsidian surrounding the entire island like a strange black mirror.
The temple stands on a mountain of solid flawless white marble. This mountain is what is left of the original volcano and is now the 10 mile bowl
That holds the lands fresh water. That is collected from the run off of the 5 mile high mountains of marble and the natural weather. The body of water is so large and heat maintained while surrounded by an attic climate that it has its own micro climate that differs drastically from the surrounding land masses.
The lake also has a north and south channel that is not heated in such a way that twice a year 10 feet thick ice sheets form on the top.
All creating a rich enviourment that provides idea habitats for a very wide range of sea life. From penguins and nar whales to sea turtles and manatees.
The actual depth is unknown due to deep volcanic channels that are said to be as large round as a football field and as long as to reach the artic ocean.
From with in the temple facing west one can see, through the gateway, prehistoric ocean life streaming up
from the darkest depths of the lake.
(As far as a less allegorical explanations of the details of the island and the structure of the temple. All of these details relate to various parts of my physical life. All of which will become apparent as the island takes its shape in the future, to myself as well as the readers.)
