Today’s featured faculty artist is Dr. Jordan Gonzalez, PhD, LMFT, ATR-BC.

When reflecting on the concept of “Belonging in Times of Chaos,” Dr. Gonzalez created a mixed media collage within a lifelong exploration of identity and self-reflection.

Drawing from personal and collective history, the work weaves together moments both celebrated and difficult — from Ellis Island and post-war boom to Iwo Jima, opioids, and everyday life like pool parties and starter homes.

Through this layered storytelling, the piece captures the complex, multifaceted experience of being American. ✨

Today on featured adjunct faculty artist we see the work of Dr. Erin Partridge, PhD, ATR-BC.

Dr. Partridge is an artist, art therapist, and researcher whose creative process moves between intuitive and methodical. She draws inspiration from hours spent making and talking about art with older adults, finding new multi-layered ways to see the world.

Her work explores non-verbal narratives in found objects and everyday ephemera, capturing the stories and textures of life through art. ✨

Meet PhD student Wei Wu 🎨 Wei is a Doctor of Philosophy in Art Therapy student in our Art Therapy Psychology program. She was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan and moved to New York City in 2018 for graduate school. Since then, she has been living between NYC and Taipei.

Wei’s artistic practice is deeply influenced by street art. She often works with colored pencils, acrylic paint, acrylic markers, and spray paint, and enjoys incorporating mixed media like chains, LEGO pieces, and other unconventional materials into her work.

Wei always hoped to grow in an artistic direction, since art has been deeply healing in her life. She started studying nursing and during patient care training she discovered art therapy and realized that combining art with helping others was what she truly wanted to pursue. She says art therapy remains the career she feels most passionate about!

As an international and out of stat student, Wei appreciates the supportive and grounded culture of the DUC program. She is especially grateful to Dr. Lisa Hinz for her mentorship and encouragement in the PhD process.

About her experience so far at Dominican, Wei shares, “I have formed meaningful friendships within my PhD cohort, and the broader art therapy program feels like a close-knit family. I feel fortunate to be part of this community!” 💛

Today’s featured faculty artist: Stacey Kamp, PhD Candidate, LMFT, ATR-BC 👩‍🎨✨

Stacey is a licensed psychotherapist, board-certified art therapist, and adjunct professor. She brings the same mindful, restorative approach she uses personally into her clinical practice and her art 🖌️💛.

Her paintings, collected nationally and internationally 🌎, reflect both her aesthetic vision and her commitment to art as a vehicle for connection and meaning 💭❤️.

Originally inspired by the natural world 🌿, Stacey’s work now focuses on how light moves across surfaces, shaping mood, perception, and emotion 💡.

Influenced by Impressionism and German Romanticism 🎨, she explores how illumination and shadow reveal depth, clarity, and vulnerability 🌅✨.

What feelings or memories come up for you when you see light and shadow in art? 🤔💫

Meet Louis, a Master’s student in Art Therapy at Dominican University of California 🎨

Raised in Pasadena, CA, Louis considers Southern California home. His artistic practice most often includes acrylic paint, colored pencils, and fiber arts like sewing and crochet.

Louis was drawn to art therapy because it brings together two of his long-standing interests: art and psychology. For him, the field offers a meaningful way to support others while staying deeply engaged in creative practice and learning.

Within our community, Louis is someone who consistently shows up. Whether it’s helping behind the scenes or supporting community events, he’s always willing to step in and lend a hand. We’re grateful for the care, creativity, and commitment he brings to our program and to art therapy! 👏

Swipe to explore Louis’s artwork, created both within the program and in his personal creative practice. 🎨

Though our annual Art Therapy Psychology exhibit, “Belonging in Times of Chaos”, may be over… 🎨✨

…we still have many talented faculty artworks to share! 🖌️💛

Today we discover the work of Dr. Cheryl Feldman, PhD, LMFT, ATR-BC.

She began her love of art through finger painting 👶🎨, transitioned to photography 📸, and has now returned to fully using her hands through clay, yarn, needle-felting, and crochet 🧶🏺✋.

For Dr. Feldman, clay is elemental, embodying 🌍 earth, 💧 water, 🌬️ air, and 🔥 fire.

As a therapist, the “holding” she does in her practice translates into the handmade forms she creates ✋❤️.

Her finished pieces capture what moves her in the moment 🌟—reflecting her responses to the world and the beauty she sees ✨.

The photography idea of the “decisive moment” 📸⏳ sticks with her in clay work, reminding us that the clay becomes what it wants to be, shaped by the moment it is created 🏺💫.

What sort of learning happens in your life through working with your hands? 🤲💭

📚 Exciting news — we have a Lending Library!

Thanks to generous donations from our alumni network, we now have a growing collection of Art Therapy resources for current and future students to explore and use. ✨

A big thank you to our faculty who gathered for an evening of sorting and organizing — most of the books have officially moved to the new library location. Soon, students will be able to check out materials as they continue advancing the field of Art Therapy.

A special thanks to the art therapy scholars who helped make this possible! 💛

Only 1 more week to experience this year’s annual Art Therapy Psychology exhibit, “Belonging in Times of Chaos!” 🎨

For the first time, our adjunct faculty are featured as artists in the show. Our “Adjunct Faculty Artist Series” series will showcase their work and give you a glimpse into how they interpret this year’s theme of “Belonging in Times of Chaos.” ✨

This week we’re featuring the work of Dr. Victoria D. Mycue, PsyD, LMFT, ATR-BC. Dr. Mycue creates art that explores our relationship with nature and creativity, from the earth, plants, and animals to the arts and the ways we experience hope and love. She believes this connection is what heals, transforms, and brings meaning to life.

Through Dr. Mycue’s work, we are invited to feel the forward pulse of life and the ways creativity can connect us to all that is life-giving. 🎨💛
