Before we can understand proactive faith, believing and receiving, and the faith that overcomes the world, we must understand the basic truth of trust. Do you really trust God?
Does that question prompt you to respond with, “I know God is in control”? That is not trust. That is fatalism. Trust is much different.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
This is a declaration that transcends fatalism. This is a recognition of God’s nature and His goodness to His children. He is not a bystander or casual observer of your struggles. He is your deliverer, your strength, your shield and your stronghold.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. (Ps. 118:8)
Why? Some put confidence in man because they believe man can deliver them from their problems. Again, fatalism is not what is being discussed. Where we turn in times of trouble is what is being discussed. Who will deliver you? God or man?
Until we have a sure foundation of trust that God is for us, God will deliver us, God will provide for us, and God will heal us, it will be difficult if not impossible to move into faith that receives from Him. If we are unsure of His nature and His will, any faith we try and work up is simply a vain imagination.
You will know you trust Him when you have His peace.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. (Isa. 26:3)
A life of worry, fear and anxiety is not a life built on trusting God. Trust is the most basic foundation on which we must build our walk with God. Is His Word guaranteed? Do you know that He is for you? The more you know Him, the more you will trust Him.
