The goals of Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy are to prepare students with in-demand skills for employers in the Retail/Hospitality/Tourism(RHT) industries; create relevant career pathways and stackable credentials; promote student success and get Californians into open jobs. It allows community colleges to become essential catalysts to California's economic recovery and jobs creation a

t the local, regional and state levels. The Retail/Hospitality/Tourism sectors currently have the largest portion of unemployment growth in the Los Angeles and Orange County regions. As a result, community colleges in LA and OC are streamlining courses within RHT by incorporating the wants and needs of employers and providing customized training to the students leading to certificate and degrees. We are forming three advisory boards (one per sector) that will meet on a monthly basis in order to contribute ideas and collaborate in the project. Each board consists of college instructors/deans, high school teachers, Workforce Investment Board representatives, trade associations, and employment managers within RHT.
