Dear Campus Community,
In light of the terrorist attack that recently occurred in Buffalo, New York, whereby 10 Black people were fatally shot and 3 injured just because of the color of their skin while going about their daily routines, there will be a campus community gathering hosted this Friday, May 20th, 12-1pm at Storke Plaza. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to share this space in solidarity with the victims of the massacre, and in solidarity with Black students at UCSB, and Black community at large, who are constantly triggered and traumatized by witnessing and experiencing anti-blackness locally, nationally, and worldwide.
The gathering will consist of an Open Mic (with priority given to the Black community. Sign up Here) to share hearts and to give honor to the victims of the Buffalo attack. Local artist Talitha Gabrielle will share music as an offering for our communal healing. There will also be an art station, and pizza and drinks provided. CAPS staff and a representative from Healing Space UCSB will also be present in solidarity and to share mental health resources. Special thanks to all the co-sponsors: BSU, MCC, OBSD, CAPS, AS, and Mental Health Taskforce Mini-Grant Committee.
