–Q: What made you want to be an education specialist teacher?

–A: I always knew I wanted to work with children of marginalized communities due to personal experiences within the education system. When working as a paraprofessional in special education, my favorite part of my job was being able to be part of the students’ daily lives and seeing their growth, and their reactions to their growth, on their personal goals. I saw how providing tools and positive support for my students helped them find their voice. I want to be part of this by creating those opportunities for my future students in a comfortable and safe environment where they can have a sense of belonging in order for them to reach their full potential.

–Q: Why did you choose UCSB as the place to complete your credential?

–A: I chose UCSB because of the community. In my experience as a UCSB undergraduate, I was able to meet many supporting people not only within the institution but also within the surrounding area of the city of Goleta, some of whom heavily influenced my decision to become an education specialist teacher.

–Q: What excites you most about your future as an educator?

–A: I am most excited about seeing the progress of my future students and to cultivate those special relationships with them and their families.
