Message from Phil

For a number of reasons, some of which I am unable to discuss at this time, I will no longer be the Faculty Advisor for Model United Nations program at College of the Canyons. As I have told many people over the years, the Model United Nations program at College of the Canyons was, by far, the most rewarding experience of my academic career. The students in the program enriched my life in ways they cannot fully appreciate. It was my great honor to play a small role in helping them unlock their true potential and find the leaders inside of them.

Along with their many individual accomplishments, the things we accomplished as a team were staggering. In the semester before the pandemic, the Model United Nations program at College of the Canyons was ranked 28th in the nation (by Best Delegate), just ahead of UC Santa Barbara (29th) and Notre Dame (30th). We were the only community college to ever make it into the Top 30. And when the pandemic shut down in-person MUN conferences, we were -- as far as I know -- the first college to host a virtual MUN conference using an innovative combination of Zoom (for formal debate) and Discord (for informal debate).

To all of you -- including delegates and Faculty Advisors from other institutions -- I am forever in your debt and you will be forever in my heart.

🚨MUN Intro Video 🚨

For our last introduction prior to tomorrow’s virtual conference, we are introducing another astounding Alumni Delegate, Naomi Cheriegate!

Naomi joined our College of the Canyons MUN team after having already received her Bachelor Degree. She wanted to experience what MUN was like, and as she describes in this video it was completely different to her expectations!

Jasmine is also currently in her first semester on our College of the Canyons MUN team. This semester she has made tremendous strides as a delegate, and she has seen amazing developments in her public speaking abilities and in her overall confidence level. Very pleased to introduce one of our new delegates today, Kulsoom Hasan!

Kulsoom is currently in her first semester on our College of the Canyons MUN team. Despite her new introduction to the world of MUN, she immediately became an award winning delegate at her very first conference.
