The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates people about emergency preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or wo

CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects on campus. The CERT program was started by the UCSC Fire Department in January 2005 and is now a program of the UCSC Office of Emergency Services (OES).

The campus CERT program celebrated its 10th anniversary in January. Initially started by the UCSC Fire Department in 2005, training classes have been on hiatus due to the Fire Department transition which took place last year.

The UCSC Office of Emergency Services (OES) has assumed responsibility for the CERT program and we are working to relaunch training classes over the summer. We will post more information here and on our website at http://emergency.ucsc.edu/public-education/cert when it becomes available.

In the meantime, you can visit http://www.santacruzcountycert.org to find other local CERT training options.
