The Student Union Assembly (SUA) is the official undergraduate student government here at UC Santa Cruz. First created in 1985, the SUA was the product of the growing desire amongst students for an umbrella establishment to organize and sustain various ca

The SUA is entirely student-led and student-funded. It deals directly with student concerns - both those that relate directly to UCSC students

(such as student fees, campus labor issues, and matters of academic integrity), and those that affect students on the local, state and nationa levels (including budget cuts, voter registration, and accessibility to higher education). The SUA holds a high priority in funding student events, holding political rallies, establishing/maintaining coalitions with other campus entities and the university administration. Above all, the SUA's highest priorities are to facilitate student internships and activist opportunities. The Student Union Assembly composes of the following:

6 Student Body officers
30 College Representatives
6 At-Large Representatives
4 Advisory non-voting members

The Student Union Assembly is excited to announce a new edition of UCSC’s monthly newsletter named Slug Scoop - created by students for students! Slug Scoop was created last spring by the SUA Office of the President and aims to build community as well as serve as an outreach platform for all. The newsletter spotlights various UCSC students, organizations, upcoming campus-wide events, and student-led projects. Slug Scoop is the perfect opportunity to highlight student accomplishments, spread the word about current initiatives, and increase your overall outreach efforts!

Hello Slugs.

The Student Union Assembly (SUA), in partnership with the Dean of Students and the UC and UCSC Offices of Campus Counsel, is excited to announce the launch of a new program that will provide UCSC students with access to free legal consultation services related to off-campus, non-UCSC housing issues. This important resource for students can help you navigate your off-campus housing experience should any legal related issues arise.

How it works
If you live off campus and need help understanding your lease agreement or are experiencing a dispute with a landlord, Off-Campus Legal Consultation Services is available to you through McManis Law. When you contact McManis Law you will be guided through an intake process, and then a meeting will be scheduled with an attorney. At the meeting the attorney will speak with you about the issues that you are experiencing, provide consultation about your legal rights and obligations, and provide guidance on potential next steps. These services are free of charge. Students may receive two consultations for a given legal issue.
Contact Information: Call 408-918-2091 for a consultation.

For more information, including FAQs, please visit the Off-Campus Housing Legal Consultation Services webpage

Hello slugs,

The SUA wants to unveil the “hidden curriculum” on campus. This refers to the unwritten, unofficial, and often unintended lessons, values, and perspectives that students pick up in school but are often unknown by the majority. For example, the best study spots on campus, services/resources that aren't well advertised.

This series aims to teach people about these resources, tips, and services on campus that folks might not have known about in our current virtual setting.

The members of the SUA have a vast knowledge of the school, but we don't know everything, so if you have anything that you think should be featured, please submit to the google form.
