The Tech4Good Lab is organizing reading groups for exploring social computing, the intersection of computation and social interaction.
With the proliferation of internet-enabled devices, computation has gradually shifted from developing tools for individuals to creating social, economic, and political systems. Social computing is incredibly interdisciplinary, using methods ranging from design and user studies to data mining and mathematical proofs. All students regardless of major and year are encouraged to join!
We know you're busy, so reading groups are designed to be extremely light. Groups meet one-hour a week for four weeks. That's it! You are only committing to read and summarize a single paper during that time. In return you get to:
* Stretch your imagination by developing a big picture view of how computation is applied to problems in society
* Build relationships with motivated peers that share common passions
* Gain intuition and experience in research, potentially opening paths to joining a lab
There will be several themes that you can choose between. Check out the Collectively webpage for information on the upcoming themes and to RSVP for the reading group formation session on Friday, August 10 @ 6pm in E2-506.
