Tiger's Roar (Savannah State University)

Tiger's Roar (Savannah State University) Student Newspaper - The independent student voice of Savannah State University. Tiger’s Roar is an independent student news outlet at Savannah State University.

Though housed in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at the university, the multimedia news outlet is open to any student- no matter age, gender, major or classification - as an opportunity to practice reporting, writing and news production. The paper is fully produced by students: students report and write stories, edit them, layout the print editions, update the website and sell

advertising. Two advisers - one staff member and one faculty member - serve as counsel to the students in times of ethical dilemma and internal issues. The advisers have no editorial control and do not decide what is published. The news website, which was revamped in 2014, attracts an average of 200 unique visitors daily. Students regularly produce written stories, videos, photo galleries and other multimedia elements specifically for the website. The print edition is published and distributed seven times a school year. The current version of Tiger’s Roar was started in 2012; though, the paper has been in existence since the 1940s. The circulation of the publication is 1,500. It is printed by the Brunswick News Publishing Company. The news outlet is funded through several outlets including advertising revenue and student activities fees.
