"One of the Cotton Exchange’s signature features is that it was built over a public right of way, Drayton Street, creating a large underpass from lower Factor’s Walk to River Street. The underpass’s eastern walkway is currently enclosed by stucco.
The approved rehabilitation plans call for demolishing the stucco in place of the glass storefront. The glass will expose the underpass’s original columns, “visually enlarging” the space and returning the feel of an “enlarged underpass,” according to the MPC staff report."
Savannah Cotton Exchange plans to add a glass storefront and restore historic features were approved by Savannah Historic District Board of Review.
