Technical skills get people in the door, but emotional intelligence determines how far they go and how well they work with others once they're there. This workshop explores the four core pillars of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Participants will assess their own EQ tendencies, practice recognizing emotional triggers (in themselves and others), and build habits for responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively. Interactive exercises and small-group discussion help translate concepts into everyday behavior, from giving feedback to managing stress under pressure.

Disagreements are inevitable in any workplace — the difference between a healthy team and a dysfunctional one lies in how those disagreements are handled. This workshop gives participants practical tools to de-escalate tension, communicate through disagreement, and reach resolutions that actually stick. Through guided discussion and real-world scenarios, attendees will learn to identify the root causes of conflict, distinguish between positions and underlying interests, and apply structured approaches to negotiation and mediation. Participants leave with a personal toolkit for handling difficult conversations with confidence and a shared framework their team can use going forward.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Western Nebraska Community College will eliminate its Lifelong Learning Department effective Jan. 1, 2027, as the College continues to evaluate its programs, services, and resources in response to ongoing fiscal uncertainty.

The change will not affect classes already scheduled. Participants who have registered for upcoming classes do not need to take any action.

WNCC will continue to offer many opportunities that have been coordinated through Lifelong Learning, including Driver’s Education. Additionally, WNCC Athletics will continue to offer youth camps.

Lifelong Learning is currently nested within the Workforce Development Department. An evaluation of staffing within that department is ongoing.

The decision is part of WNCC’s ongoing efforts to align resources with institutional priorities following the passage of its 2026-27 operating budget. The College is also continuing to monitor broader fiscal conditions facing the state.

In July, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen called for an additional 5 percent reduction in state agency spending during the current fiscal year. Because community colleges are political subdivisions, additional legislative action would be required for a similar reduction to apply to community colleges. That potential reduction is not included in WNCC’s 2026-27 budget.

“These are no doubt difficult decisions,” said WNCC President Greg Dart. “At the same time, they give us an opportunity to take a thoughtful look at how we use our resources and focus our efforts where we can have the greatest impact. By doing so, we can create more opportunities that meet the needs of the Panhandle and help build a stronger region.”

WNCC will provide additional information about the transition and future offerings as plans are finalized.

This is an 18 hour driver's education course for individuals age 18 and up. The course consists of 12 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of driving instruction. Content includes traffic laws and regulations; road signs and markings; defensive driving techniques; vehicle maintenance and safety checks; in-car instruction with a certified driving instructor; parking, turning, and lane-change techniques; and highway and urban driving.

Class will be held on M, T, W, and TH from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
