This Memorial Day, the brothers of I.O.O.F. Scottsburg Lodge 555 join our community across Scott County and Southern Indiana in honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Today is more than a holiday — it is a day of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice so future generations could live in freedom. Their courage, honor, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As Odd Fellows, we are reminded of the values of friendship, love, and truth, and the importance of standing together as a community to honor those who gave everything for others.

May we always remember the fallen, support their families, and carry forward the spirit of unity and service that strengthens our nation and our communities. 🇺🇸

Recently the lodge visited the Scott County Heritage Center & Museum where we took a guided tour, here are a few pictures of the museum. One picture was taken in the war room with ties to our very own John Lizenby, tucked away in a corner sat an old wooden trunk with a beautifully hand painted mural with the name “Karen Sue” a worker bee and the date “1943,” John began to tell me that chest belonged to his father Fred who was a Sea bee in the Navy and company commander. The chest was made by Fred’s men knowing that Fred’s daughter Karen was going to be born in 1943. John donated the chest when his sister Karen passed away a few years ago. Just imagine what the chest could tell if it could talk, surviving since 1943, just amazing. John emphasized on the importance of family, faith, trials and tribulations that they experienced and this chest represented what his family felt while his father was away serving his country. If you get a chance, stop by the museum, take a trip down memory lane while checking out the past. Each item there has its own story, one of those stories may trace back to you like it does to John and his family.
