The University of Scranton Office of Community Relations The Office of Community Relations serves as the University’s link with the Greater Scranton area.

The Office of Community Relations is the University’s liaison with area residents, neighborhood groups, community organizations and government bodies in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and particularly the City of Scranton. The Office provides resources to help students, parents, faculty, and staff to become part of the community.

Community Partners - the 2026 University-Community Partner meeting is right around the corner! Please join us for this year’s workshop on Tuesday, June 9 from 11:30am-2:00pm in the Rose Room, Brennan Hall.

This workshop, which includes lunch and time for networking, provides an opportunity for reflection, collaboration, and assessment. We hope you can join us on this day!

It is that time of year again! Please mark your calendars for this year’s World Refugee Day, taking place on Saturday, June 20 from 2-5pm. Please note that this event will take place at the Diocesan of Scranton Pastoral Center (330 Wyoming Ave, Scranton, PA 18503).

World Refugee Day honors the strength, resilience, and courage of millions of refugees throughout the world, and this event honors the rich cultural heritages of the refugee communities in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Join us for a fun-filled day cultural music and dance performances, games and activities for kids, and light refreshments. All are welcome to attend!

More than 25 community agencies are working together to put on the 2026 World Refugee Day Celebration, including Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton; The University of Scranton; City of Scranton; Diocese of Scranton; Scranton Area Multifaith Ministerium; Temple Hesed; Friends of the Poor & Catherine McAuley Center: A Partnership for the Common Good; Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary; Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church; Edward R. Leahy Jr., Clinic for the Uninsured; United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania; Ignatian Volunteer Corps; S.T.A.R.S. Program at Marywood University; Islamic Center of Scranton; Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit; Congolese Community of Scranton, Bhutanese Community of Scranton; Bhutanese Cultural Foundation Scranton Association; Saigon Corner Vietnamese Restaurant; WVIA; Intra-National Pharmacy; Pennsylvania Department of Education – Migrant Education Program; Church of Saint Gregory, Clarks Green; Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit; Maternal & Family Health Services; and NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, May 12th, 4th grade students from McNichols Plaza Elementary visited the University of Scranton! Throughout the morning, the students rotated to different scientific activities like fingerprinting, lava lamps, microscopes, and more. After participating in activities, students enjoyed lunch and were joined by University of Scranton students and faculty.

A big thank you to all our faculty colleagues and student volunteers who helped out with the activities. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to McNichols Elementary’s next annual visit!

On Tuesday, May 12th, 4th grade students from McNichols Plaza Elementary School visited the University of Scranton! In April, University of Scranton students organized three "Fall Screening and Prevention Education” events for older adults in Scranton Housing Authority buildings. 17 students (DPT and pre-med) participated between all three events together with two faculty members. The events were well received and served over 37 people in the community. With special thanks to the UofS Department of Physical Therapy, Scranton Housing and the City of Scranton for this collaboration.
