Our fifth senior spotlight is Edgar Cardiel. He is a media production major from Oak Cliff, Texas. He is going back home to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and working behind cameras and in the audio video production world. He has participated in HU16, The Bison, Harding Sports Network, VideoWorks, KVHU 95.3, men’s basketball team photo/videographer, men’s football team videographer, University Communications and Marketing videographer, and American Studies Institute.

He likes that he can dive deeper into subjects that interest him with his professors being intentional about expanding his knowledge as well as being open to questions. This isn’t only related to class work but also conversations about wisdom, photography and many other subjects. On top of that, he loved learning from all the people in the building no matter if it tied directly to his line of work. He particularly enjoyed students teaching other students.

A fun fact is that he has been to Michigan, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana and Missouri — all while in college.

A quote he wanted to share is, “Knowledge means nothing if we don’t share it with other people.” Thank you, Edgar, for blessing our department!

Emma Claire Smith is our third senior spotlight. She is a film and theological studies major from Atlanta. After graduating in May, she is planning to work at the Disney College Program in Orlando and then move to London in December to work in film. She is a member of Chi Omega Pi social club and president of the Campus Players Club. She loves how the department offers endless support and encouragement to students, which enables them to achieve great things. A fun fact is that she had the great opportunity to study abroad at HUE in fall 2023. A Bible verse she wanted to share is John 3:18: “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” We are so excited for what’s next for her!

She is a member of the social club Ju Go Ju, a member and social media director of the Integrated Marketing Communications Organization, and a member of the American Studies Institute. She has enjoyed getting hands-on insight and experiences through trips organized by Lori Sloan. A fun fact is that she has been fascinated by the Kennedy family since she was little. This has led her to selecting them as the topic of her senior communication research project. She is thankful for the impact the Department Communication has had on her during her time at Harding.
