As a first-generation college graduate and accomplished higher education leader, Dr. Vargas-Aburto brings decades of experience advancing student success, academic excellence and opportunity. Most recently, he served as the president of Southeast Missouri State University and has held leadership roles at institutions across the country.

As we prepare for this next chapter, we look forward to introducing Dr. Vargas-Aburto to our campus and continuing to build the momentum that makes CSUMB such a special place.

⭐ Honoring the Legacy and Significance of Juneteenth at CSUMB.

Today, had the privilege of hosting a live watch party for the California State University system’s 2026 Juneteenth Symposium.

Faculty, staff, and students came together to engage in meaningful conversations, reflect on the significance of Juneteenth, and celebrate the ongoing pursuit of equity, freedom and justice. Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring this important day and strengthening our commitment to inclusion and belonging.

🌟 Honoring a legacy of community impact!

Founded by student Iris Peppard as a senior capstone project in 2002, Everyone’s Harvest has grown into a cornerstone of the Monterey County community. Today, the nonprofit operates six farmers markets, has distributed more than $3.5 million in food over the past decade, and helped more than 5,200 shoppers access fresh food through CalFresh and Market Match programs in 2025 alone.

This year, Everyone’s Harvest was recognized as a 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor and continued impact across our region and beyond!
