CEP senior Victoria Lopez-Wilkerson was selected to receive the 2026 Population Health Recognition Award by the UW Office of Undergraduate Research for her project, “Equity in Emergency: Planning Community Resilience Hubs for Seattle’s Underserved Neighborhoods”.

She is the FIRST CEPster to receive this award!

“My research explores an innovative, systems-based approach to enhance health equity, resilience and disaster preparedness in communities that experience disproportionate vulnerabilities due to structural inequities. By integrating spatial analysis with community-centered design to identify where resilience hubs; localized resource centers offering emergency support, health services and social connectivity can most effectively reduce health disparities and improve collective capacity to respond to crises.”

If you are interested in learning more about Victoria’s methods and the amplified hazards that the Duwamish Valley faces through a spatial analysis, she will be presenting at the Undergraduate Research Symposium on May 15th.

CEP senior Daniel Vega Garcia Alderete received the 2026 Carolee Danz Endowed Scholarship for Student Employees of the Libraries.

“An endless sea of circulating material — from the writings of the autogestive theorist to manuscripts dating back to the Qing Dynasty — I’ve spent nearly three years ensuring that not just the UW community, but the public at large, has direct access to the resources necessary to advance their intellectual endeavors.”

Congratulations, Danny!
