Jinseon Hwang and Charles Kwanin recently attended Sigma’s International Nursing Research Congress to present their healthy aging research, supported by de Tornyay Center travel scholarships.

“Toronto was... much more than a trip to present my research. It was an opportunity to listen, learn, have meaningful conversations, and connect with accomplished nurse scientists, researchers, clinicians, and colleagues from around the world,” said Kwanin.

“Connecting with nurse researchers from around the world was an inspiring experience, and I’m deeply grateful to my advisor, Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Thompson, the de Tornyay Center, and the UW School of Nursing for their continued support and mentorship,” said Hwang.

In a now annual tradition, a cohort of six undergraduate nursing students from the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Science (NTUNHS) visited the UW School of Nursing this summer.

“I was particularly impressed by the emphasis placed on patient autonomy,” said Feng-Chun Chiu. “Nurses consistently explained procedures and care activities to patients and encouraged their participation in decision-making. These interactions helped build trust and reduce patient anxiety.”
