UW Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) GPSS is the official student government for graduate and professional students at the University of Washington.

GPSS is made up of five officers, two senators from each degree-granting department, many committees, and several staff members.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It is a powerful time to reflect on Black liberation, resilience, and the ongoing fight for racial justice.

As graduate students, we are called to:
✊🏽 Acknowledge the legacy of slavery and systemic racism
📖 Educate ourselves on Black history beyond traditional narratives
🤝 Commit to anti-racism in our communities, research, and classrooms

Join us for the Personal Safety and Awareness Workshop, May 22, 2–3:30 PM, IMA Mat Room B 🥊

Join us for a two-part event focused on empowerment and preparedness. The Personal Safety and Awareness Workshop is intended to instill confidence and reassurance when navigating life on our UW campus, the Ave, and the surrounding areas. We will understand how to employ situation-based measures to lower your vulnerability, recognize proper responses to potential threats, and enhance your perception to potential concerns.

In the second half, try out a beginner-friendly, contactless boxing session, led by women from the national champion boxing team at the UW. No experience needed, just come ready to move and feel empowered!

In March, GPSS joined the United States Student Association and students nationwide in Washington, D.C. for ! We attended training sessions, heard from guest speakers, and lobbied our federal representatives to ensure that higher education and financial aid options remain accessible. 
 
Thank you to for organizing this empowering conference and uniting students across the country. We are excited to officially be part of the USSA and elevate student voices. See you next time!
