University of Washington senior Shubham Bansal has been named a 2026 Rhodes Scholar — one of only 32 students in the U.S. selected for this prestigious scholarship.

Shubham grew up just north of Seattle in Mukilteo and enrolled at the UW at age 16 to study neuroscience. As an undergraduate, he has researched how the human immune system responds to illness and worked with Seattle Children’s Hospital on studies of neurodevelopmental disorders in young patients. He plans to become a physician.

Shubham is the first Husky to be named a Rhodes Scholar since 2012. --https://www.washington.edu/uaa/2025/11/21/uw-undergrad-named-2026-rhodes-scholar/

UW Neuroscience Alumni!

Neurobiology Club, in collaboration with medical students and residents from the UW School of Medicine, launched a Graduate Mentorship Program this past March to foster meaningful connections between undergraduate students and healthcare professionals, either in training or practice. The goal is to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration across various stages in the medical field journey, as well as inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.
For our first cycle, we received 50+ undergraduate applications and welcomed 17 total mentors: 7 medical students from the UW Student-Interest Group for Neurology and 10 current Neurology residents. With so many students participating and seeing the value of the program, we are hoping to expand this fall and include physicians as mentor options as well!
Typical topics that students seek advice on include the medical school application process, MCAT preparation, matching into residency, career prospects, family/life planning considerations, etc. However, the true benefit of having a mentor such as yourself is in sharing your journey/experience in medicine with students! The program itself is very flexible, and we completely understand that certain days/weeks are busier than others. Therefore, the frequency of meetings (either in-person or over zoom) and times are entirely specific to each mentor-mentee pairing. You can also specify how many undergraduate students you would like to mentor.
If you are interested in being a mentor for this upcoming fall or at a later date, please contact Zoe Thomas (Co-President) at [email protected]. We appreciate your consideration and sincerely thank you for your time!
