At the University of Washington School of Dentistry, the Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE) program connects students with rural and underserved communities across Washington state through hands-on clinical training and community partnerships.

The result: about 75 percent of RIDE graduates choose to practice in these areas, helping expand access to care where it is needed most.

See how RIDE students and faculty are committed to this mission—and consider where your dental education could take you!

Last month, a team of UWSOD students, along with faculty, partnered with Floss Boss Mobile for a community outreach event in Kent, WA. On Saturday, 11/15, the mobile clinic served 10 patients in need of dental care, sponsored by Seattle-King County Public Health. Dental students provided a range of services including extractions, fillings, and cleanings at no cost. Third-year students Kiran Maini, Shaili Rathod, and Mariya Pirumyan served as primary providers, supported by second-year students Aya Taji and Anna Larson as dental assistants. Faculty supervision was provided by Dr. Fok and Dr. Chianglin, with additional support from Dr. Lina Kim and the Floss Boss Mobile volunteer team. The collaboration was a successful and meaningful effort to expand access to care!
