tnership between the Office of Graduate Student Affairs in The Graduate School and the UW Libraries Research Commons. Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition originally developed by the University of Queensland, Australia.

UW 3MT: Call for Proposals
Proposals due: Monday, March 6, 2023 @ 11:59 p.m.

Open to all eligible graduate students from UW Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma.

Apply to compete in the 2023 UW Three Minute Thesis (UW 3MT®), where prizes will be awarded to 1st Place, 2nd Place, and People’s Choice Award winners! This event is a partnership between the Office of Graduate Student Affairs in The Graduate School and the UW Libraries Research Commons.

Successful presenters from the online preliminary rounds will be selected as finalists to compete during the in person 3MT event, March 29, 2023 on the Seattle campus.

The theme for this year’s competition is Impact. Impact can be defined as the positive outcome of a critical intervention, social policy, service provision model, legal framework or technological innovation. How does your graduate research demonstrate impact for the public good? We’re excited to celebrate the influence our graduate students have on the world!

Are you a UW graduate student in the final stages of your capstone, thesis or dissertation project?

Apply to compete in the 2022 UW Virtual Three Minute Thesis (UW 3MT®), where you'll have the opportunity to present your project in just three minutes for cash prizes totaling $5,000. The competition is open to all eligible graduate students from Bothell, Tacoma, and Seattle campuses. This event is a partnership between Core Programs—Office of Graduate Student Affairs in The Graduate School and the UW Libraries Research Commons.

The theme for this year’s competition is Impact. Want to see 12 graduate students from across disciplines present their work in three minutes, while competing for cash prizes in front of an esteemed panel of judges? Attend the UW Virtual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition! Senior master's students and doctoral candidates, representing 7 schools and colleges from across the UW, will share their capstone, thesis, or dissertation projects, with a particular emphasis on the theme of Equity. Join us for these fast-paced and engaging presentations. This event is a partnership between Core Programs—Office of Graduate Student Affairs in The Graduate School and UW Libraries Research Commons.

The online audience will vote for their favorite presenter to win the People’s Choice Award!

Prizes: First Place ($2,500), Runner Up ($1,500), and People’s Choice Award ($1,000). Prize money generously donated by Bruce and Joanne Montgomery.
