The American Bar Association's (ABA) accreditation council today voted to repeal its decades-old standard requiring law schools to demonstrate a commitment to diversity after the Department of Education recommended stripping the ABA of its federal recognition as an accreditor of law schools. Professor Steven Bender spoke to Inside Higher Ed ahead of the vote, saying, "The fact the council is doing a special meeting and not waiting until their next meeting [in February] says that they are in a rush to capitulate [to the Trump administration]." https://www.insidehighered.com/news/diversity/race-ethnicity/2026/09/08/aba-council-votes-long-contested-diversity-standard

In our second edition of "Faculty Voices," our new series of op-eds from Seattle U Law professors, the Center for Civil Rights and Critical Justice advocates on behalf of the July bar exam candidates who were seated in the accommodations room. Like the rest of the test-takers, they also experienced significant tech difficulties that disrupted the exam, but because they were able to finish the test, they were not included in the Washington Supreme Court's diploma privilege decision.
