Across the world, the month of June is designated as Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary, community members. A time to remember history, celebrate how far we’ve come in advancing the rights of LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary, community members, but also to reinvigorate our efforts to continue the fight for equality and against discrimination and hatred.
While Pride Month is an uplifting celebration, it is important to note that Pride started as a riot at Stonewall. So many have worked very hard to get it to a point where the LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary community can feel heard, seen, and honored to be their full selves. We know that this fight isn’t over. Please stand with our Seattle Colleges QTBIPOC LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary community as we remember that although Pride is a celebration, Pride is also a push to make the world a more equitable place for everybody.
The Seattle Colleges Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Community invites you to join us Wednesday, June 15, 11:30am-1:00pm. To begin the conversation. With a mindfulness listening session for how we as a community, institution and individually build an LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary inclusive and supportive campuses for our students and employees.
Please see below information we will use to guide our conversation. Huge thank you to the student leaders, faculty and staff who reached out to the Office of EDI & Community for a call to action by the institution in support of our LGBTQIA+, Trans, non-binary, community members.
