We were featured in Seattle magazine today! Shout out to everyone involved and supporting the Indian Classical dance community in Seattle and beyond.

Over the past 10 years, the South Asian population in the Puget Sound region has nearly tripled. Most people who have seen the show Outsourced or have had an Indian-accented technician solve their computer woes associate this influx with tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the wonderful judges who helped make Laasya happen. We appreciate the time and effort you all took to support our endeavors in preserving the arts with the next generation.

Joyce K. Paul received her Bharatnatyam training under Guru Leela Samson, prof. J. Janardhanan, and Prof C. V. Chandrashekaran. She also has a background in Mohiniyattam under Kalamandalam Gopinath. Joyce then went on to complete her Ph.D in Excersise Physiology and pursue a career in User Experience Research and Usability. In 2002, Joyce founded and became Artistic Director of Arpan Arts, a performing arts organization dedicated to promoting Folk and Classical dance, music, folklore, and values. Most recently, she choreographed and directed “Yavanika”, a contemporary dance work about human perspectives conveyed through the story of two women.
