As part of our ongoing social media series highlighting C&IC staff, please say hello to Chris Cummings (He/Him) who has been serving as one of our Peer Coaches this academic year!

Chris is currently in the second year of the Master of Public Health - Community-Oriented Public Health Practice (COPHP) program and is set to graduate in June. He's been living in Seattle for almost nine years and originally grew up in Massachusetts. As a first-generation student, Chris is the only member of his family to pursue higher education, which is deeply important to him as an accomplishment. Additionally, Chris is also a huge lover of animals, pets, and lives with a black cat named Leon!

In his free time, Chris enjoys reading a variety of literature with a particular favorite author of his being JRR Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings series. This Summer he hopes to dive into more reading for his own personal enjoyment as a reward for completing his graduate studies. Chris is also a skilled home cook/baker and enjoys having friends over for shared meals.

As one of the C&IC's Peer Coaches, Chris takes pride in providing a safe and encouraging space for students to receive constructive feedback. The most rewarding part of the job for him is knowing at the end of a session, students are walking away feeling more confident and have received the resources they need to move forward with the next step of their professional development. Chris also finds it deeply enriching to continuously get to know students and discuss their career goals.

Please give a warm welcome to Eli Davis, our Internship Program Manager!

Eli first began their journey at the University of Washington after transferring from the Seattle Colleges system, eventually earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in public health with a focus in epidemiology. While working full-time during thier undergraduate experience, graduate school was their first chance to dive into hands-on roles such as outbreak investigation and program support.Although they were initially interested in STI research, Eli's experiences led them in unexpected directions as they found themselves drawn to working in urban planning and ultimately higher education.

Today, Eli is passionate about creating inclusive, meaningful, and paid experiential learning opportunities that help students explore their paths with confidence and does so with the understanding that there is a lot of pressure to find the “perfect” internship. With this in mind, they believe it's important to remember that every experience matters and that the C&IC is here to support students every step of the way.

Outside of work, Eli has become a big sports fan over the past few years and regularly follows NFL and NHL games. They also love staying active and outdoors whether it’s running, hiking, snowboarding, or playing in a local kickball league.

Additionally, giving back is an important value that Eli holds and they regularly volunteer with Seattle Humane Society through their community clinics and has even had the chance to attend PAX through volunteering!

While most of Eli's work happens behind the scenes or in partnership with employers, what they enjoy the most are the moments where they get to connect directly with students.

Whether it’s at career fairs, workshops, or the Internship Series that they co-lead, those interactions are what make work so meaningful as they deeply care about helping students explore opportunities, build confidence, and take the next step in their journey.

Say hello to Meaghan Woods (She/Her), one of our excellent Career Coaches! With a background in English and education, Meaghan understands that career development isn’t always a straight line and embraces the idea of non-linear career paths. From her own twisty path that nearly led to becoming a high school teacher along with a variety of roles in graduate school, each experience helped clarify her own interests and direction. Now in her seventh year as a Career Coach, Meaghan is passionate about helping students build confidence by recognizing the value of their experiences and skills.

Outside of her role, you’ll likely find Meaghan immersed in a novel by Brandon Sanderson and curled up with her two cats! Habanero and Shadow.

Her favorite parts of being a Career Coach is helping the career discovery process feel less intimidating. Meaghan prides herself on meeting students exactly where they are and finds joy in watching uncertainty turn into clarity as well as help build confidence in each student's career exploration journey.

Meet Ruyan Li (They/Them), one of our Peer Coaches at the C&IC! As a double major in Neuroscience and Informatics, Ruyan brings an analytical focus and a passion for research as part of their academic background.

Outside of their studies at UW, Ruyan is a soprano and music enthusiast who has studied voice for several years and has even composed their own original music. A notable strength they possess is their curiosity, especially as a self-described lover of languages and cultures outside of their own. A fun fact about them is that they spent a previous Summer conducting research in Kenya and once got way too excited seeing a wild hyena!

As a Peer Coach, what Ruyan values most about the C&IC is its commitment to making sure every student feels seen, supported, and empowered. Having navigated new experiences firsthand, they believe in helping others not just find their way, but also build a sense of community and confidence along their journey as a student and career paths.
