Supporting Future Nurses: TLU Receives Grant from the Crawford and Hattie Jackson Foundation
Texas Lutheran University was recently honored to receive a scholarship grant from the Crawford and Hattie Jackson Foundation to support students in the 2026–27 academic year.
Based in Sugarland, the foundation, which has supported the university in the past, selected the TLU School of Nursing as a scholarship recipient—an award which will benefit nursing students enrolled at the university’s Houston campus.
TLU is incredibly grateful for the ongoing generosity of the foundation!

Support for MAT Students at TLU: Orthopedic Kneed Foundation Awards Scholarship
San Antonio’s Orthopedic Kneed Foundation recently selected the TLU Master of Athletic Training program to be a scholarship recipient for the 2026–27 academic year. This first-time gift from the foundation will impact MAT graduate students in their final year of study.
The foundation has a mission to see that young athletes are never turned away from necessary care due to an inability to pay, and it also supports students who want to become athletic trainers.
TLU is incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Orthopedic Kneed Foundation.

The Gift of Gratitude: Alum Spotlight on Chassety Raines. You’ve probably heard of a Renaissance person: one of those individuals whose talents and interests seem to span a multitude of vastly different spheres. Here’s an example: When Chassety Raines graduated TLU in 2022, she earned both a BA in Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship and a BS in biology. The Big Dog Endowment, created by TLU alums Dave Sather and Carol Klages, is designed to teach effective altruism and the business of philanthropy at the same time. Each semester, students participating in the program divide into teams and do extensive research on worthy causes around the world. Their goal: to figure out where funds channeled from the endowment can have the biggest positive impact. Teams present their ideas at an event known as Philanthropitch, and a group of judges evaluates the presentations, selecting one standout—and then $25,000 is put toward that cause.
