This week’s Coffee with the Coach welcomes Nate Burns, head baseball coach at the University of the South. Now in his third season as head coach and sixth year with the program, Coach Burns leads Sewanee’s baseball team which dates back to 1875. Join us to hear about the team’s record-tying 2025 season and what’s ahead for 2026.

We loved welcoming Softball Head Coach Merritt Yackey to Coffee with the Coach this week at McGriff Alumni House. Now in his 11th season at Sewanee, Coach Yackey shared insights on the season ahead, leadership, and the strong sense of community that defines our softball program.

This week’s Coffee with the Coach will be Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m. Central and will feature Sewanee’s new head football coach, Joe Freitag. Coach Freitag was named the 33rd head coach in program history on Dec. 11, 2025, after spending the past 11 years at Monmouth College, where he served as offensive coordinator. During his tenure, Monmouth posted an impressive 85–21 record, and Coach Freitag brings deep experience working with offensive line and quarterbacks. Whether you’re a longtime football fan or simply curious to learn more, we hope you'll tune in.
