This past Friday we held our Fall Equine Exploration Day! Prospective students got the opportunity to learn how to count strides and set lines for jumping with Hunt Seat Coach Lindsey Mortimer, and did a stomach model activity with Dr. Morgan Pyles to learn the importance of feeding before exercising!

Prospective students and their families also the opportunity to chat with admissions, have a tour of our equine facility, and chat with current students and staff!

Katie Brucks ('05) was presented with the UMC Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Award a couple of weeks ago.

Katie is currently the owner of Lucky Stables and serves as a barn manager, riding instructor, and equine-assisted services provider, plus she’s a high school coach, college coach, and coach of special needs equestrian teams.

Brucks is also the founder of The Lucky Foundation, a nonprofit which harnesses the therapeutic power of horses to create a space where individuals with disabilities and special needs find support and experience a profound sense of accomplishment. She has taken riders to national events and earned a special achievement award from the Wisconsin Horse Council, as well as being honored as the 2026 Wisconsin Horseperson of the Year.

They all did amazing and learned so much from the experience!

Bonnie has been part of the program here for a long time and can do it all-- beginner safe to ride and drive, goes western and English, jumps, safe in the arena and outside!

Bonnie does have some chronic conditions (Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Equine Asthma) that require management, details can be provided to seriously interested parties.
