Well, here we are! The 2025-2026 academic year has come and gone and now is time for everyone to take a well-deserved break.

Congratulations to our graduates and for those that will be returning in the fall, remember to take the time to recharge and relax.

While campus may be a little quieter for the next few months, the library will still be here for anyone that needs to drop by.

Note, the library is not open on weekends during summer break. Additionally, for those that need research assistance, a librarian will be available from noon to 4 pm on weekdays.

We hope that you all have a great summer break and we look forward to seeing many of you back on campus in the fall!

Happy National Library Week! 📚

From April 19–26, Lehman Library is celebrating National Library Week—an annual observance that highlights the important role libraries play in our communities.

To mark the occasion, we’ve dug into the archives to showcase how Library Week has evolved throughout Shippensburg’s history. Highlights include:
- Photos from a 1962 tea and book signing
- The announcement of the “new” library building in 1967
- Popular books on campus in 1958 and 1968

We have also set up a table with buttons, stickers, and fun activities so that you can help celebrate the week with us.

This Wednesday, students from Waynesboro High School were treated to a 45-minute instruction session by librarian James Sterner about historical textbooks at the Little Red Schoolhouse.

As a part of this lesson, students were able to use these 19th and early 20th century textbooks to learn more about how the formal education system has transformed over time.

Additionally, the students spent the day participating in other historical activities, including making cornhusk dolls, visiting the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum, and participating in "19th-century recess".

The Poetry Reception was a huge success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning.

We would especially like to thank the students of Dr. Nicole Santalucia’s Advanced Poetry (ENGL 427) course. This exhibit would not have been possible without their hard work.

The library looks forward to future opportunities to collaborate with SU faculty and students!

The poetry exhibit has arrived!

The library is proud to present a new exhibit created by students in Dr. Nicole Santalucia’s Advanced Poetry (ENGL 427) course.

Featuring original poems by the class, the exhibit highlights the creativity and talent developed throughout the semester. Visitors are invited to read the students’ work and engage with their own practice of creating poetry by contributing a line to two community poems.

The exhibit also includes selections from the university archives that reflect Shippensburg's rich history with the art of poetry, along with free copies of the university’s literary journals, The Reflector and The Spawning Pool

The exhibit will be open in our gallery for the entire month of April so make sure to stop by and check it out!

And don't forget to come by on April 9th at 9:45am for a reception where students will provide a reading of their poetry.

Thank you to the Advanced Poetry ENGL 427 class for a wonderful exhibit!

Happy National Poetry Month!

This month is dedicated to amplifying poetry and its creative use of language.

While we have many books of poetry to choose from, we selected these 6 to highlight in the library's collections.

Also, don't forget to check out the library's new exhibition, created by students of Advanced Poetry ENGL 427. You also have the opportunity to hear the students read their poetry at the upcoming reception, held in the library's main gallery at 9:45am on April 9th. You don't want to miss it!
