Centenary College of Louisiana is a private, four-year arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Centenary is one of 16 colleges and universities constituting the Associated Colleges of the South (A

CS) and is regularly rated as one of the top colleges in the South. Mentioned in the Templeton Guide's Colleges that encourage Character Development and in Peterson's Top Colleges for Science, the College is also highly ranked in U.S. In 2009, the Princeton Review tagged Centenary College as one of the "Best 371 Colleges," and Newsweek named us the "Hottest Liberal Arts School You've Never Heard Of." If that wasn't enough, Forbes.com named Centenary College one of "America's Best College" and one of "America's Best Private Colleges." Comment Policy:

During summer 2026, the Centenary Archives benefitted from the assistance of volunteers and part-time student workers. They processed 10 collections from Louisiana United Methodist churches, whose inventories are now available in the online catalog. The summer volunteers were Lauren Troncoso (employee at Shreve Memorial Library), Maggie Hodges (Shreveporter enrolled as undergraduate student at Washington and Lee University), and Ellie Anderson (Centenary class of 2026). The part-time student workers were Beth Vogler (Centenary class of 2027) and Lillian Klingenberg (Centenary class of 2029).

Hurley had the distinct pleasure of hosting over 170 choral students from seven area high schools—Airline, Benton, Byrd, Caddo Magnet, Haughton, Minden, and Providence Classical Academy—today. In addition to working on all-state audition rep, students also practiced sight reading, heard about Centenary from current students and our admission staff, listened to Opera Centenary, Dr. Sosenheimer, and Centenary Choir perform, and some got the joy of a vocal masterclass with our inimitable Dr. Briana Sosenheimer. Rebecca Bryan, Rachel Gordon, Kim Hill, Jennifer Jackson, Naomi Naquin, Rebecca Vacha, and Amy Wakefield continue to be superstar choral music teachers in NW Louisiana schools, and we are so lucky they share their endless energy and great talents with all these students. Hurley wishes them all the best of luck on their all-state auditions later this month!
