Join us this Friday to honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the first responders, and military service members who have protected our freedoms by answering our nation's call.

We will begin our celebration with a revitalizing of our POW/MIA memorial hosted by our student-led Red River Garden Club.

Later, we will hear firsthand accounts of the role Barksdale Air Force Base played during these tragic events. Refreshments will be served in the Collaboratory provided by the LSU Shreveport Chancellor.

We look forward to seeing you as we honor our nation's resolve. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Chancellor Dr. Robert Smith has announced the appointment of Melinda Harbaugh as Vice Chancellor of Strategic Communication and Partnerships, a newly created role that will bring together LSUS’s marketing, communications, strategic planning and community partnership efforts.

“Having grown up in Thibodaux in a family deeply connected to higher education, Louisiana has always been home to me,” Melinda said. “I see tremendous energy and opportunity at LSUS and throughout the region, and I’m excited to bring my Louisiana roots, outside perspective, and broad career experience to help tell the LSUS story, build strong partnerships, and contribute to what comes next."

Melinda officially joins the LSUS team next week. Help us give her a warm Pilot welcome!

Nearly 40 aspiring healthcare professionals joined us this summer for the inaugural Pre-Health Success Program, designed to help students explore their paths toward medical and professional school and connect with the faculty, staff and healthcare professionals who can help them get there.

A joint panel of LSUS and LSU Health Shreveport faculty and local medical practitioners weighed in on topics surrounding their profession, especially mental health and the importance of asking for help.

There may not be one path to a career in healthcare, but at LSUS, you won’t have to navigate yours alone. ⚓

As a first-generation college student herself, Dr. Adrienne Davis knows what it feels like to enter college without knowing the unspoken rules. She once left college because she felt like she didn’t belong. Years later, she returned, earned three degrees (two from LSUS), and now stands on the other side of the classroom helping students navigate the same journey.

At the 2026 First-Year Convocation, Dr. Davis shared her story of finding a sense of belonging while navigating the "hidden curriculum" as a first-generation student. And everyone at LSUS agrees with her advice: "Find someone on campus, a professor or a mentor, who you feel like you can connect with. Go to their office hours, introduce yourself, ask them questions. Ask them the questions I was too scared to ask."

LSUS is filled with professors, mentors, advisors, tutors, counselors, and fellow Pilots who are ready to help you feel anchored in the Pilot community.

LSU Shreveport public health student Ahmed Ghazawneh recently presented undergraduate research at the International Coordination Chemistry Conference, a prestigious global event that brought together researchers in the field.

Working alongside chemistry professor Dr. Henry Nkabyo, Ahmed studied chemical compounds that show potential for the future development of new antimicrobial agents. Although chemistry isn't his major, Ahmed says the experience has strengthened skills he'll carry into whatever comes next.
