Due to this evenings weather, dog training will be cancelled tonight, June 16. See you next week!

Come join us TONIGHT for another round of Paws & Effect Dog Training!

The cost is $15 per night; cash preferred, checks accepted. Meet at the Instruction North Buildingat 6 p.m. for new teams and 6:30 p.m. for returning teams.

NEW TEAMS: Arrive with a hungry dog, tummy-safe treats, a collar (not corrective), and a non-retractable leash. Keep dogs separate from other dogs. This is for any team who has never attended with us before. You will learn how to build a relationship, trust, and respect with your pup, plus get started on the foundation skills needed to be a well-mannered companion.

RETURNING TEAMS: We will advance loose leash walking and other basic skills by adding duration and distraction. Don’t forget those high-value treats!

Tyler Williams was reluctant to walk across the stage at MCC’s spring commencement ceremony.

He couldn’t help but think of the hundreds of eyes all on him as his name was called. But even though he was scared, he knew he had to do it for his support system to see — he simply wouldn’t be there without them.

“I always felt like if anyone in my family was to be the one to change the trajectory of things, it would have to be me,” Williams said. “I knew I was capable of it. I saw how my parents were, I saw my surroundings, I saw how everyone acted and how they handled things and I ran as far away from that as I could. I took all that knowledge of how not to do things and I learned from it.”

In her work with local K-12 schools, MCC Career Advisor Amy Zdanowski noticed a gap in career programming.

“Too often, career readiness is treated as an add-on; a one-time event; a lesson; or a field trip,” Zdanowski recalled. “Those experiences have value, but they don’t build a system. And without a system, those efforts fade when budgets shift, staff changes, or priorities move.”

It wasn’t long ago that Zdanowski discovered a system that could be perfect for Montcalm-area school districts. She attended a session at the National Career Development Conference, led by Educators Cooperative, who showcased their Connect the Work project.

“I remember coming back and telling my colleagues, ‘I found the Holy Grail,’” Zdanowski said.

A June 9 ribbon cutting for Carbonelli Villas, the new student housing building on Montcalm Community College’s Sidney campus, marked a milestone for the institution.

Members of the college’s Board of Trustees, Foundation Board, college leadership, and the Carbonelli family, as well as representatives of project partners Construction Simplified, Mathison/Mathison and Progressive Companies joined employees and community members in gathering for the occasion.

Before a representative group officially cut the ribbon, MCC President Dr. Bradley J. Barrick and Board Chair Kurt Peterson were joined by project partners to address the attendees.

“Today is a truly historic occasion and marks a defining moment in the life of Montcalm Community College,” Dr. Barrick said. “Student housing transforms a campus from a place students attend into a community where students belong.”
