Cochise College Early College We specialize in high schoolers taking college classes as well as youth programs through the college. Most camps have a 7-to-1 ratio of adults to children.

During June & July, we offer week-long summer camps for kids in grades 4-12. Fun, hands-on activities with instructors and/or professionals from the community. We provide all materials needed for the class. We ask that kids bring a snack and a water bottle each day. Some camps will showcase their completed activities/performances.

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

College students are expected to take an active role in managing their learning. Students are responsible for keeping up with their work, monitoring their progress, and asking for help when they need it.

READY SKILL: INDEPENDENT LEARNING

College students need to be able to work independently and follow through without frequent reminders. This includes following the syllabus, keeping track of due dates, completing assignments, and studying outside of class to understand and retain new information.

Students are also responsible for monitoring their grades and knowing how they are doing in their courses. They may need to independently log into MyCochise, access Moodle, find course materials, check announcements, and submit assignments.

Being an independent learner doesn't mean you have to figure everything out alone. It means knowing how to manage your responsibilities, follow instructions, use available resources, and ask for help when you need it.

Ask yourself:
✔Can I manage my assignments, due dates, and other course responsibilities without frequent reminders?
✔Can I independently use technology to access information and complete my coursework?
✔Am I willing to monitor my grades, study outside of class, and ask for help when I need it?

Being college ready means taking ownership of your learning and knowing what you need to do to stay on track.

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

College classes require more than showing up and completing assignments. Developing strong organization and study habits can help you keep up with coursework and feel confident in your classes.

READY SKILL: ORGANIZATION & STUDY SKILLS

College courses may have a higher level of rigor than high school classes. Staying organized and developing effective study habits can make a big difference in your success.

You may need to keep track of assignments, projects, discussion forums, quizzes, and exams. Having a dedicated study space and a system for managing deadlines can help you stay on track.

College grades may also depend on more than completing assignments. Understanding course material, remembering key concepts, and applying what you learn often requires study time outside of class.

Ask yourself:
✔Do I have a system for keeping track of assignments and deadlines?
✔Am I willing to set aside time to study outside of class?
✔Can I prepare for exams that may carry significant weight in my final grade?

Being college ready means developing habits that help you stay organized, understand the material, and prepare for success.

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

College classes require a time commitment. Before adding a college class to your schedule, think about how it will fit with high school, sports, a job, clubs, family responsibilities, and other activities.

READY SKILL: TIME & STRESS MANAGEMENT

College classes require time outside of class for reading, assignments, studying, and preparing for exams. College courses may also have a higher level of rigor than high school classes.

Attendance is important, too. College classes do not follow your high school’s schedule, so you may have college classes when your high school is on a break.

Ask yourself:
✔Do I have enough time to give my college class the attention it requires?
✔Can I keep track of deadlines and manage my time?
✔What will I do when college work, high school, and other responsibilities become stressful?

Think you have the time and strategies to balance college with your other commitments? We’re ready to help you get started!

The word is out: the second 8-week session starts October 19!

The second 8-week session begins October 19 and runs through December 14. These classes move at a faster pace than a traditional 16-week semester, but if a shorter, more focused session sounds like a good fit for you, reach out to Early College Programs. We can talk through the details, answer your questions, and help you get started.

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

Parents often wonder, “Is my student ready for college?”

Academic readiness is important, but it is only one part of being successful in a college class. Early College is starting a series of posts to explore some of the skills that can help students and parents decide if now is a good time to begin taking college classes.

READY SKILL: COMMUNICATION
College students need to be able to communicate clearly and respectfully with instructors and classmates.

In an in-person class, this may mean participating in discussions, asking questions, working with classmates, and speaking with your instructor when you need help.

Online classes require communication, too. Students may be expected to participate in discussion forums, respond to classmates, send emails, and communicate with their instructor about questions or concerns.

Ask yourself:
Can I communicate respectfully with adults and classmates?
Can I write a clear email or message?
Will I check my college email and respond when needed?

Being college ready isn't about knowing everything. It's about being willing and able to communicate, ask questions, and take responsibility for getting the help you need.

Follow along as we explore more areas of college readiness.
