Our AgEd Roots Workshop for Ag Instructors is winding down. We had a great couple of days covering a lot of great topics and discussing many things that Ag Teachers encounter in their classrooms.

The Garden May Term has officially wrapped up, and what a great few weeks it was.

Our students planted the Morningside Garden, added flowers around campus, and got plenty of dirt under their fingernails along the way. We visited Adaville Honey Co., toured C Brown Farms, explored the Sioux City Farmers Market for fresh local products, made bug suckers, planted flowers with students from Siouxland Christian, powered up blender bikes, and volunteered at the Sioux City Community Garden.

Somewhere between the sunshine, soil, sweat, and laughter, a lot of learning happened too.

Most importantly… every student officially passed the “Dirty Hands Test.” Mission accomplished.

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed our students, shared their knowledge, and helped make this May Term such a fun hands-on experience.

Congratulations to Dan Witten!

Dan Witten, Associate Professor in the Applied Agricultural and Food Studies program at Morningside University, has been awarded the Honorary Iowa FFA Degree at the 97th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference.

This honor represents the highest recognition the Iowa FFA Association can bestow upon a non-member and celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to agricultural education and student success.

With more than 25 years in agricultural education, Dan has made a lasting impact—from leading a nationally recognized FFA chapter at Westwood CSD to preparing future agricultural leaders at Morningside University. His work emphasizes experiential learning, leadership development, and real-world application, helping students connect classroom learning to industry and community.

“Dan’s impact on agricultural education in Iowa is both deep and far-reaching,” said Dean Tom Paulsen. “This recognition reflects the difference he has made in the lives of students and the strength he brings to agricultural education across our state.”

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the impact Dan makes every day.
