SRU Sport Management

SRU Sport Management Welcome to the official page of Slippery Rock University's Sport Management program! The program services about 150 students each academic year.

Here we will be posting updates and news about the major and the sport industry. Slippery Rock University began it's nationally, and internationally, recognized Sport Management program in 1977. Slippery Rock Sport Management students are exposed to a thorough curriculum covering the various aspects of the sport industry. The program provides students with the opportunity to expand their knowledge

through experiences outside the traditional class setting. Each student is required to complete four practicum, one internship, 120 volunteer hours and attend one conference during their time at Slippery Rock. Also, each year during spring break, an international program is offered solely for Sport Management students. During these periods Sport Management students have visited various locations in Europe and South America. The program was most recently the first recipient of the COSMA accreditation. Congratulations Dari!

WISE Collegiate Member Spotlight ✨ Dari Sakhanova!

Dari, a Slippery Rock University grad, will soon begin an internship with the Avanza Sports for the Rafa Nadal Tennis Camp as an Assistant Project Manager, and will then transition to graduate school.

She says, "I joined WISE at SRU as a freshman, and the most valuable thing I found was the community. Being surrounded by powerful women leaders in sports shaped me professionally and personally. Also, it gave me a huge believe in myself that if I work hard and have a right mindset, I can become as one of the speakers, who presented themselves during our club meetings. WISE is truly exceptional professional development where you build not only a network, but lifelong mentorships and friendships where everyone genuinely wants to see you succeed. Also, I have a deep appreciation for how WISE Pittsburgh supports university chapters and helped me to think outside of the box, as well as get more exposure on Sports Industry! No matter where I go, I will always be proud to be part of WISE and will join local professional chapter!"

Congratulations, Dari!

A shout out to our students attending the Pennsylvania Sport Business Conference last Friday as they visited with reps from MLB and MLS teams, sports agents, Oakmont Country Club (hosted recently US Open), Dick’s Sporting Goods corporate, and more. Extending that comfort zone. Special recognition to senior Aaron Chaplin for earning his statewide award for excellence in service to the industry. Whether it is the Altoona Curve, the Pirates, the Savannah Bananas, Rock Athletics and more, Aaron is there rain or shine. Mr. Positivity!

Congratulations to Evan Kijowski, Addison Kosenina, Jason Repasky, and Jozee Weaver for competing in the 2026 Pennsylvania Sport Business Conference (PASBC) case study competition. The group did a fantastic job of helping to pinpoint a new naming rights partner for a Pennsylvania-based minor league team, providing activation and assessment strategies. Research, critical analysis, public speaking and presentations, thinking on your feet, and separating yourself from your competition are all great takeaways from being a part of these competitions. Excited to continue these opportunities in the 2026-27 competition. Extending the comfort zone.

A fantastic start of the day at the SRU Student Research Symposium as some of the students in SPMT 499 shared their research projects. Alex, Lily, Roberto, and Ethan took questions from faculty and students in the ballroom where many other research projects in the sciences and humanities were featured. Quinn, a SM minor, showcased his research with communication faculty. Transfer portal, NIL, mental heath, and even Tik Tok were the topics of the early afternoon thanks to our friends at SRU Sponsored Programs. Extending that comfort zone each day.
