Each year, Bryant University selects a graduating senior to serve a three-year term as a full member of its Board of Trustees — a distinction that underscores Bryant's longstanding commitment to student success and leadership at the highest level of governance.

Entrepreneur Vincent Emery ’26, the 2026 Recent Alumni Trustee selection, has always been good at figuring out how small details add up to the big picture. Now he aims to use that skill to help Bryant through a rapidly evolving future and make sure students have what they need to succeed.

A therapy room may be Kathleen Everson’s primary location for meeting clients, but the licensed psychologist and director of performance psychology also finds herself on athletic courts and fields teaching kids mental skills that help them excel in sports.

“Recently, for basketball, I had a team practice visualization together on the court,” says Everson, a member of Bryant’s Class of 2018 who majored in Applied Psychology. “Visualization uses the same parts of the brain that are used when you're doing the behavior, so you can get more reps in mentally without having the physical component.”

It’s an early morning in Bryant University’s “From Asylums to Zoloft: The Sociology of Mental Health” course and Lecturer of Sociology Amanda Fontaine, Ph.D., has chosen to kick off the day’s lesson with a challenge. As the class considers social media’s implications for mental health, she explains that — while it’s an idea that’s often talked about — social media addiction has no formal definition or concrete diagnosis.

With zero official criteria for quantifying and establishing what social media addiction could look like, Fontaine tasks students with drawing upon their previous coursework to consider what indications of a social media use disorder would be. Hands pop up around the room as undergrads begin sharing suggestions:

“A shorter attention span,” argues one.

“Inability to stop looking at social media,” suggests another.

“Anxiety or negative moods,” a third offers.

Designed to expose students to the many pathways within the financial industry, the Women in Finance trip to Chicago connected Bulldogs with alumni and professionals at organizations including Zurich North America, the Chicago Blackhawks, Red Bull, and more. Through conversations and networking, students gained firsthand insight into the diverse and dynamic career journeys possible with a Bryant education.

Experiential opportunities like these showcase the power of Bryant’s alumni network and career-connected learning — helping students see where a Bryant degree can take them: Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and beyond.

EXPLORE Chicago was led by Bryant University's Amica Center for Career Education and Finance Lecturer Mara Derderian.

Batoul Chaghlil ’29 is always moving toward the future. In just her first year on campus, Chaghlil, the president of Bryant University’s Muslim Student Association and Arab Student Association, is already establishing herself as a leader on campus — both in the classroom and beyond. And she’s just getting started.

Chaghlil’s drive is propelled by personal experience and an innate need to look out for others. Born in Syria, she attended a single day of school in her home country before a civil war in her home country forced her family to move to the United States when she was six years old. That experience, she says, has instilled in her a desire to assist others and develop communities where people can come together and work toward a common goal.

“I want to start conversations, even if it might seem awkward to connect with someone who seems different,” says Chaghlil. “It’s about creating a sense of belonging, respect, and collaboration.

Class of 2030: What are 7 things you should do the summer before college? In US News, Bryant's Veronica Stewart encourages incoming students to attend campus events, stay academically sharp, and build their networks to be ready on day one.

“Go to new student orientation (and) ask questions,” says Stewart, director of career services at Bryant's Amica Center for Career Education. “Don't think you're the only person who doesn't understand because most people in the group don’t understand as it's new material for them too.”

Strokes remain a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. In the United States, someone has a stroke every 40 seconds, and someone dies of a stroke every three minutes and 14 seconds, based on data from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The danger is also wider than most believe, says Kristin Scaplen, Ph.D., a neuroscientist in Bryant University’s Psychology department. Scaplen notes that while strokes, which starve the brain of glucose and oxygen, are typically seen as brain injuries that affect the elderly, approximately 10 to 15 percent of strokes occur in children and young adults.

“This underscores why early detection and intervention is critical,” she explains.
