Global Studies is a liberal arts major that prepares students to become effective leaders and citizens in today’s rapidly changing world. Modern economies are shaped by factors such as rising trade levels, multinational corporations, and global economic institutions. National and personal security are influenced by global events. The cultures of the world are linked and ideas can flow globally in

an instant. No single academic discipline can cover all aspects of these global realities, but careful multidisciplinary study can give students the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and succeed in this interconnected world. Global Studies courses develop valued skills in analytic thinking, decision-making, and communication. Global Studies majors are equipped for success throughout their professional lives in fields such as government service, business, education, and journalism, or to pursue advanced study in several fields, such as history, international relations, political science, anthropology, and development.

This past weekend students from Bryant University were recognized at the Yale University International Policy Competition. Bryant University students took on this challenge along with 300 participants. They transformed into policy makers, whom only were given 12 hours to deliver a full policy proposal and a formal presentation. The issue this year was based on the conflict of the South China Sea, one of the teams made it to the second round of finals delivering an exceptional proposal on issues of conflict resolution and regional security. Congrats to all!

Global Studies students traveled with professors to the UN in NYC. One student added, "It was impressive to see the collaboration of individuals to develop and advocate for the right to science. Overall, the two-day trip was the type of opportunity that I think is vital to every student’s academic experience. The department offered us students unforgettable experiences and I’m excited to see where my Global Studies major will take me.”
